Reading Passage

Read the passage carefully before answering the questions.

Digital technology has changed the way people communicate, work, learn, and organize their daily lives. Smartphones, social media, online services, and cloud-based platforms allow people to remain connected across long distances. A person can communicate with a friend on another continent, attend an online meeting, or access information within seconds. This level of connectivity offers many advantages. Communication can be faster and more convenient, and people can maintain relationships even when they live far apart. Businesses can work with international teams, while students can access educational resources that may not be available in their local communities. During emergencies, digital communication can also help people share information quickly. However, being constantly connected can create new challenges. Notifications, messages, and updates can interrupt people's attention throughout the day. Some people may feel pressure to respond immediately, even when a message is not urgent. As a result, technology that was designed to make communication easier can sometimes make it more difficult for people to concentrate or relax. Another issue is the quality of online communication. Digital messages can be efficient, but they may not communicate emotions as clearly as face-to-face conversations. A short message can sometimes be misunderstood because the reader cannot hear the speaker's tone of voice or see their facial expression. This can lead to unnecessary conflicts or confusion. The connected world has also changed the way people receive information. In the past, people often depended on newspapers, television, or other traditional sources. Today, information can spread through social media within minutes. This can be useful when important news needs to reach people quickly, but it also means that inaccurate information can spread rapidly. For this reason, digital literacy has become increasingly important. People need to know how to evaluate online information, identify reliable sources, and recognize content that may be misleading. Being able to access information is not the same as being able to understand whether that information is trustworthy. Privacy is another important concern. Many online services collect information about users' activities, preferences, and locations. This information can improve personalized services, but users may not always understand how much data is being collected or how it is being used. Living in a connected world therefore requires more than simply having access to technology. People need to develop habits that allow them to benefit from digital communication while protecting their attention, privacy, and ability to evaluate information critically. The goal is not necessarily to disconnect completely, but to use technology in ways that support rather than control everyday life.
